School Tours, Field Trips, and Night-time Wagon Rides at Watson Christmas Tree Farm
School Tours and Field Trips
In November of 2007, we will open Watson Christmas Tree Farm for school tours, field trips, and night-time wagon rides. Call (903) 566-1282 to schedule your event. Tours and wagon rides can start as early as November 1 until December 22. There will be no tours on Saturdays after Thanksgiving and no night-time wagon rides on any Sunday's.
School tours and field trips will start at 9:00 am and 12:00 pm. Prices are $4 for each child. There is no charge for adult sponsors, parents, and bus drivers. There is tuition available for those children that the entrance fee would be a financial burden. Please be very discreet about that practice. We have to have as much revenue as possible to keep the farm running, but we do not want any child to be left behind and we do not want any with hurt feelings either. One adult has to be identified as primary contact when arrangements are made. This contact will meet us upon arrival and provide a list of children attending and entrance fees. If there are any on tuition, please put those on a separate list discreetly.
The first thing on our agenda is to explain to the entire group what the program is and to explain our rules that must always be followed. All children must be with an adult at all times. Do not pull or step on baby trees. Do not touch flocked trees and no running in the Christmas Tree Fields. There is a 5-acre meadow where they can run to their heart’s content after the tour.
We will then have a story time. The story that we tell is the greatest story ever told. We read the true story of Christmas from the biblical account in Luke. We want to set the mood for the season of what we think Christmas is all about, which is the birth of our lord Jesus Christ.
Everyone will get a chance to take a tractor drawn wagon ride through the entire farm. We do not use hay because of allergies and the chance of someone slipping. All children and adults like this ride. Many of our customers come out each year just because of the wagon ride.
We give an educational talk to the children on how we grow Christmas trees and the ecological benefit of our operation. There are tree swings to swing on. Take a nature walk and try to identify as many types of trees that you can. We do not have picnic tables for meals, but you are welcome to bring blankets to lay down on the ground and have any snacks that you bring.
Each child also leaves with a Christmas tree coloring book and peppermint stick.
We look forward to seeing you and hope that your group has a great time.
Night-time Wagon Rides
We will open the farm at night for wagon rides for youth groups, scouts, and adult parties. This will not be available on Sunday nights. The starting time will be after 6:00 pm and must be over by 9:00 pm. We will take everyone on a wagon ride and furnish a small bonfire for marshmallow or wiener roasts. The wagon ride will be totally on the farm property for safety. You will have to furnish your own marshmallows and wieners due to health regulations. No alcohol, pets, guns, or smoking is allowed. $4 for each person. Feel free to bring a jam box and sing all of the Christmas carols you like. You may want to bring folding chairs as well.
